Lisbon, early morning at Santa Apolónia station. Walter Ashby, a retired bus conductor from Sheffield, steps off the night train with a squeaky suitcase, an unopened guidebook and a Christmas card from the daughter he hasn't spoken to in nine years. On it are a baby he has never met and an address he hopes is still hers. No villains, no disasters: just a foreign city, wrong turns, kind strangers and the small courage it takes to ask for help.
